Padiham GP hosting well-being day in Town Hall

padiham day

Dr James Fleming, a Padiham GP and the Clinical Director of Burnley West Primary Care Network, is hosting a well-being day at Padiham Town Hall on Wednesday 4 March, in partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning.

The Community Wellbeing Day is running from 10am until 2.30pm and will give residents and members of the public the opportunity to find out more about the wide range of free courses and qualifications on offer in the local area. These include Health Awareness; First Aid, Food Safety and Health and Safety Training; Chair Based Exercise and Falls Prevention; Cooking Skills and Eating Well on a Budget.

From accessing health services online, making sugar swaps, cooking nutritious meals or exploring new ways to improve your physical and mental wellbeing – there will be something for everyone. Free health checks including blood pressure, blood glucose and weight will also be available on the day from a team of health professionals.

Dr Fleming said: “We have organised the Community Wellbeing Day to help people to look after themselves and take control of their health and wellbeing. Being in control of your health can help you feel happier as well as healthier.

“I really want our local residents to find out more about health and what options there are in the community that are free, and good fun, for improving their wellbeing whilst being supported to do so.  I’m hoping this will lead people to worry less about certain conditions but also that they know when it is important they seek medical help.

“The day should be good fun, informative and interesting. I really look forward to seeing residents there.”

Along with Lord Shuttleworth attending at lunchtime, a number of local organisations will be on display highlighting the services available to the community.  These include Burnley Football Club; Age UK; Lancashire Women’s Centre; Burnley Leisure Trust, and Inspire.  In addition, will be school heads, health visitors, doctors, and nursing teams.
