Covid booster drive-through coming to Hyndburn

A new drive-through Covid booster vaccine clinic is opening at 10am at the Globe Centre in Accrington on Saturday 22nd January 2022.

The public will also be able to walk into the pop up plus facility which will be based on the Globe’s car park.

It will be open from 10am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm Sunday. It is offering booster jabs to anyone eligible aged 16 and above, as well as first and second doses to everyone aged 12 plus.

The new drive-thru site, which originated in Blackburn, is part of the national drive to get as many people boosted as possible due to the new Covid 19 variant.

No need to book, just drive or walk up.

Jane Scattergood, Covid-19 Vaccination Director for Lancashire and South Cumbria, is urging people to get their booster jab without delay.

She said: “The NHS is working closely with all its partners on a rapid response to the new variant of the virus in order to protect our residents. We have secured extra vaccines for everyone who is eligible and made it as easy as possible for them to come forward to be vaccinated.

“A great deal of work has gone into setting up these sites, particularly when they are not in health setting. But it is important that the vaccination programme is available locally and in convenient settings for the public to access.

“A huge thank you to all our staff and partners who are working hard on the delivery of this next phase of the vaccination programme and are helping to protect our residents and their loved ones.”

Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “This facility coming to Accrington is fantastic news and I would urge everyone who is due a jab to use it.

“Making sure we are all up to date with our Covid-19 vaccinations is one of the best ways we can protect each other and help our borough on the road to recovery.

“Thank you, on behalf of Hyndburn, to NHS colleagues who are working to make vaccination as accessible as possible for our communities.”
