Updated statement from Pennine CCGs on Covid-19

Dr Mark Dziobon, local GP and Medical Director for the Pennine Lancashire CCGs, said: “Locally, we are still very concerned about the high infection rates, the high number of hospital admissions and sadly the high number of deaths from Covid. GPs have worked hard with hospital services to set up a “virtual covid ward” which is proving very successful in monitoring and helping those who are really vulnerable and at risk of hospital admission. With Covid some people can become breathless quickly. Now we ensure that patients monitor their breathing and we have set up an alert system to ensure people get the right treatment quickly.

“All health services are continuing to provide care for Covid and non-Covid patients. We are hearing that even those who have so called mild symptoms can suffer some longer term problems. Make no mistake, Covid-19 is a very serious disease. The vaccine news is promising but everyone still needs to follow the guidance, which has been put in place to protect us, and encourage our families and friends to do the same. If everyone plays their part to prevent the spread, collectively we can get through this.”
