Parents and schools to ‘Learn Live’ about the child flu vaccine

Schools and parents across Pennine Lancashire (Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire) are being given the opportunity to ‘Learn Live’ about the importance of the annual child flu vaccination.

Flu can be a very unpleasant illness for children and can cause serious complications for children with long term health conditions.  The child flu vaccination is offered as a nasal spray and is available free on the NHS to all primary school children up to and including age 10.

On 18th July, Learn Live – a live interactive broadcast channel – will be web streamed free to classes and assembly halls – to enable children and teachers, to find out more about the child flu vaccination and address any concerns. The Learn Live channel will also be available to parents who can watch it at home or from their place of work. In addition, parents and children can view a recording of the broadcast at a later time.

The short 20 minute interactive broadcast will be presented by Dr Stuart Berry, GP lead for respiratory conditions across NHS East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).   The sessions have been facilitated by NHS East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen CCGs in partnership with Learn Live as part of a series of health broadcasts across the region.

Dr Berry, said:

“This is a great opportunity to help young people and parents to understand the importance of the child flu vaccine, not just for the child put for the protection of the whole family, particularly the more vulnerable family members like grandparents.

“I’m also really looking forward to seeing what questions we receive from the schools and parents. It’s an opportunity to bust some of the myths around the child flu vaccine and reassure schools and parents.”
