Tips to look after yourself this bank holiday

Many of us may be making plans for the bank holiday on Monday 27 August. If you are unfortunate enough to have an illness or injury over the long weekend, this information could help you get back on your feet in no time.

NHS East Lancashire and NHS Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) suggest you could be getting better sooner if you call NHS111 or see your local pharmacist.

Some local pharmacies are open on bank holiday Monday, and may be able to give you the advice and medication you need, without having to wait to see your GP. Visit the CCG’s website to see which local pharmacies will be open:

The NHS 111 free phone number is also available any time day or night. Trained call handlers can give you the advice you need, or direct you to the service best for your need.

Dr Preeti Shukla, Clinical Lead at NHS Blackburn with Darwen CCG said:

“At any time of year, it’s a good idea to have a well-stocked medicine cabinet. For under £10, you can fill your medicine cabinet with a range of painkillers, antihistamines and treatments for minor ailments.

“If you’re out and about over the bank holiday weekend, you could add a small first aid kit to your bag or the boot of the car, just in case. Drinking plenty of water and protecting yourself from the sun are also simple ways to take care of yourself.”
