Generous PPE donation from Shuttleworth College given to distribute across frontline staff

Frontline NHS health and care staff are set to benefit from the generosity of Shuttleworth College in Padiham.  The school has kindly donated 100 visors following an appeal by the local NHS to businesses to donate unwanted Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

NHS East Lancashire and NHS Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are hopeful that this donation will encourage other businesses to follow in their footsteps and donate more unused or unwanted PPE where possible.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is specialised clothing or equipment worn by employees for protection against health and safety hazards. PPE such as surgical gloves, protective aprons and surgical masks and visors are now needed more than ever by health workers and first responders needing to protect themselves and patients during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Shuttleworth College has not only donated PPE, the pupils have also been hard at work making homemade postcards with uplifting messages of support and creative and beautiful hand drawn pictures to be given to staff to let them know that they are hugely appreciated for all of their hard work they continue to do for the NHS.

One postcard reads “I know at the moment we have to stay apart, but always remember we are in this together, you are not alone and it will pass, apart but not alone.”

Shuttleworth College has also set up a Just Giving page to raise money for key workers who are affected by Covid-19. The donations will go towards providing any necessities and PPE for frontline staff who are isolated from their homes and families and donations will be given to Burnley and Padiham foodbanks.

Alex Walker, Director of Performance and Delivery at the two CCGs, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Shuttleworth College for generously donating their time and resources in the provision of these visors.  These are challenging times and the NHS, health and care staff across Pennine Lancashire need an inordinate amount of PPE so any other donations are welcome and well received.  Thank you to those businesses and organisations like Shuttleworth College for their generosity and support.”
