Reminder for feedback on new primary care model

The CCG is urging local residents to take a few minutes to read the proposals and provide feedback on the proposed new model for primary care in East Lancashire.

The model which has been developed by local GPs, and after initial feedback from patients, incorporates the vision for same day access, 8am-8pm 7 days a week to a GP wherever you are in East Lancashire. It wouldn’t however, change patient access to:

  • Routine GP opening hours (8am to 6.30pm)
  • GP out of hours (6.30pm to 8am)
  • Minor Injuries Units at Accrington and Rossendale
  • The Urgent Care Centres in Blackburn and Burnley

The CCG currently funds a GP walk-in centre based in Accrington Victoria Community Hospital which is intended for everybody in East Lancashire to use. An alternative to this, with the aim to bring GP access closer to people’s homes and fairer access for all, is being considered.

Based on the current proposals, there would still be a service based in Hyndburn, the difference being that there would be extra Health Hubs in Burnley, Rossendale and Pendle with access for Ribblesdale residents. These hubs which are planned to be appointment only rather than walk-in, will be accessed through the GP Practice from late afternoon to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday morning.

In addition, the hubs in Burnley and Hyndburn would offer 8am to 8pm appointments on Saturdays and Sundays for all East Lancashire residents.

Sharon Martin, Director of Performance and Delivery at NHS East Lancashire CCG, said: “The consultation has been running for a number of weeks now and we have had a remarkable amount of responses, with some extremely valuable comments. All feedback that we receive will be taken into account and considered carefully.

We have been out and spoken extensively to a wide range of organisations and groups including patient participation groups and local councils as well as directly face to face with a significant number of patients.

If anyone who hasn’t already responded but would like the opportunity to have their view listened to, then please do fill in a questionnaire before the consultation ends on the 8 July. We really do value all feedback as it this which will help us shape the model and future of primary care.”

The CCG has created an online questionnaire which can be accessed on the CCG’s website at: http://www.eastlancsccg.nhs.uk/improving-gp-access/. You can also pick up a paper copy of the questionnaire at your GP practice.
