Local residents urged to stock up on necessities ahead of the school summer holidays

With all schools across the country soon to be closed due to the summer holiday (July 22nd-September 3rd), doctors at Blackburn with Darwen and East Lancashire want to make sure all parents are well prepared for when their children break up for the summer.

During the six weeks holiday, students will be going out with their friends, socialising and making the most of the summer holiday. However, as we all know accidents can happen which is why local NHS chiefs are advising residents to plan in advance and stock up on the essentials from their pharmacists.

Cuts, bruises and sunburn are all potential accidents which may occur. This is why it advisable local residents have the essential medicines/treatments beforehand just in case anything happens.

Essentials items every household should have:

• First aid kit (including bandages, plasters, antiseptic wipes etc.)
• Sunscreen (keep a sun location of at least factor 15)
• Antihistamine tablets (useful for dealing with insect bites and allergies such as: hay fever)
• Anti-diarrhoea tablets

Dr Chris Clayton, Clinical Chief Officer at both CCGs said:

“Students will soon be breaking up for summer, it is important for parents to plan ahead and make sure they have all the necessities well in advance.

“Instead of booking an appointment with your GP, you can visit your local pharmacist any time. They will be able to find the treatments you need for your children, as well as provide expert advice.

“By planning ahead and taking a few simple steps you will be ready for the summer holiday.”
